adventure and absurdity in making an animated short

who what why

my name is jim capobianco. this blog is about a short film that's been in the works for some time now. officially 1999 to give a rough start date. it's title is LEONARDO. it is about 8 minutes long and drawn by hand. done completely in off hours from the day job, the film is 10 scenes away - 104 feet -from the entire short being animated, at least in a rough manner. after that milestone, victory, landmark, holy shit moment, the footage clock will be set back to 650ft 14frames and the tie-down and inbetween begins. that is where "Leo" is right now. the blog is a diary of sorts to chronicle the rest of this nutty enterprise and perhaps some animator or film-maker out there will stumble upon it and get inspired or decide to do something better with their time. the posts may be few and far between, there is a short to finish after all and there are regrettably only 24 hours in a day, but an effort will be made to keep it up.

we realize you have a lot of choices in the blogosphere, thanks for spending some time with this one.

Lethal Innocence

Buy this book. ON FILM-MAKING
If you are interested in making films, whether it's animation or some other form, this collection of Alexander Mackendrick's class notes is indispensable.

Sandy, "The Old Man" was a teacher of mine and one of the reasons I pursued storyboarding instead of animating as a career. And who knows probably, in a round about way led me here, to making my own film.

If you don't know Mackendrick's work then you have some movies to watch.

Start with MAN IN THE WHITE SUIT

move on to THE LADY KILLERS

then SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS

we'll talk after.

the film isn't done but there is this blog
